Furniture Conservation Project Client Testimonials

“If you are going to trust artwork to a restorer, good technical advice is vitally important. I took a small collection of family miniatures to Ludovic Potts Conservation and the advice I received – artistic, conservational and commercial was impeccable. The conservation work is stunning, bringing out the beauty and delicacy of brushwork that must have been there since their creation but which was sadly hidden for many years. I am delighted with the results and strongly recommend Ludovic Potts for his skill in art conservation.”

The piano, a beautiful Steinway, had suffered from multiple re-lacquering over many years and as a result the natural grain of the wood that made it what it was, had been lost. Through painstaking conservation over a long period of time you managed to remove each old layer and take the piano back to the original condition and finish. It now looks fantastic, has been retuned and increased in value. Thank you once again and I will not hesitate to recommend you to my friends, colleagues and clients.”

“When ‘good’ is simply not good enough”

I have known and worked with Ludovic over a great many years and have watched in awe as he has given new life to damaged fine art pieces. He has an enviable reputation within his field as an expert restorer and conservator, earning the trust and respect of numerous illustrious clients and institutions. Items which have been ravaged by time, accident, flood or smoke damage have been restored to their former glory after Ludovic’s painstaking attention to detail in his purpose built workshops. Pieces which, to the untrained eye, are past redemption have been skilfully and lovingly been brought back to their former condition using traditional methods. Following an onsite viewing of the damage a written report outlining what remedial work can take place is always sent to clients for their approval, prior to the work starting.
Ongoing conservation contracts with esteemed clients bear testament to the trust and respect that has been built up over the years. All clients are treated with discretion and are assured of the highest level of service at all times.”

I have been going to Ludovic Potts for furniture repairs and restorations for almost 20 years. I first went after seeking recommendations. Ludovic’s name repeatedly came up and I wouldn’t now go to anyone else, for all kinds of reasons. He knows what he is talking about; he has wide ranging expertise and is always honest about the options for any individual piece – and he can be refreshingly frank about what is not worth doing. I have always been impressed by the quality of his work, the precise attention to detail and the traditional methods he uses. One of his first jobs for us was the restoration of a nice, if not particularly special, Victorian chaise longue. After well over fifteen years of rough treatment (including from young kids and teens), it still looks and feels good. It is always a pleasure dealing with Ludovic, and he makes the whole process flexible and trouble free – from first contact to final delivery.
