The drying out and subsequent lifting of inlay is a common problem in marquetry and parquetry items that we are asked to conserve or repair, often due to modern day central heating systems. We normally lift the affected areas where the damage has occurred and clean out the areas underneath, re-gluing using traditional bone glue.
When inlay areas are missing we take tracings and drawings, and match to the existing surface areas. Replacement timbers used are carefully selected from reclaimed period material of a similar colour and texture. Any replaced will be photographed and documented accordingly.
